           2010 Archery Season

This was not a good year for the bow hunter in Starkey.  There were a few animals taken , but there were not many hunters in the woods to move the game around.  The main reason for the lack of hunters is because the ODFW  put a outlandish price on the out of state hunters.  For the out of stater  it cost them $641 for a license and tag.  That is on top of all the other cost in travel and such.
A young couple from Redding Ca. sprung for the lic. & tag and it paid off for them.  Below we have Ira and Amanda and their trophies.

They left Redding about 8 PM and arrived at their campsite about 8 AM.  After setting up camp they headed out for they spot to rest in their tree stands.  Their rest was cut short by a 5/5 walking into Amanda's range.  She made a clean shot and with in 10 minutes a 6/6 wakled in to Ira's range. He made a good shoot, but before it went down another 6/6 walks into his range.  Being the good hunter he is he waited for the one he shoot to turn and look at the second 6/6 and that is all Ira needed to finish the job.  That was just the beginning cause they spent the balance of the day and part of the night packing both elk out of a deep canyon.   Good job Ira and Amanda and thanks for sharing your success story with us here at the Starkey Station.
Now I am waiting for you both to show up at the Victory Motorcycle Campout the third weekend of August on your motorcycle.
